Bayahibe

Bayahibe, located on the southeastern coast of the Dominican Republic in La Altagracia Province, is a picturesque fishing village that has become one of the country’s most important tourist hubs. Known as the main gateway to Saona Island, Bayahibe is where most catamarans and speedboats depart to explore the natural wonders of the Caribbean Sea.

Once a quiet fishing town, Bayahibe has transformed into a lively tourism hub while maintaining its authentic Caribbean charm. The village is filled with colorful houses, small restaurants, and local shops, making it a welcoming stop for visitors before embarking on excursions.

Bayahibe is not only the starting point for Isla Saona and the Parque Nacional Cotubanamá (Parque Nacional del Este), but also a destination in itself. Its beaches, such as Bayahibe Beach and nearby Dominicus Beach, are famous for calm turquoise waters, soft white sand, and beautiful sunsets.

The area is also renowned for scuba diving and snorkeling, thanks to its proximity to coral reefs, shipwrecks, and abundant marine life. Bayahibe has become a diver’s paradise, attracting enthusiasts from around the world.

Culturally, Bayahibe preserves its fishing traditions and is known for being the site where the Bayahibe Rose, the Dominican Republic’s national flower, was discovered. This unique botanical treasure adds to the village’s cultural and ecological value.

🚗 Accessibility: Bayahibe is located just 2 hours (150 km) from Santo Domingo, about 50 minutes (70 km) from Punta Cana, and around 4 hours and 15 minutes (305 km) from Puerto Plata, making it an ideal stop for travelers from all major tourist hubs.

Whether enjoying its tranquil beaches, diving into its marine wonders, or departing on an unforgettable trip to Isla Saona, Bayahibe is a must-visit location in the Dominican Republic.
