Set within Jaragua National Park, Oviedo Lagoon (Laguna de Oviedo) is one of the Dominican Republic’s most unique coastal wetlands. Its milky-green, hypersaline waters are ringed by mangroves and dotted with more than twenty small cays. The nutrient-rich lagoon attracts American flamingos, herons, egrets, ospreys and seasonal migratory species, making it a top birdwatching destination in the southwest.
