Cayo Levantado / Bacardi Island
Cayo Levantado, often called Bacardi Island, is a small but iconic island in Samaná Bay, Dominican Republic. Its charm comes from its white sand beaches, crystal-clear turquoise waters, lush coconut palms, and tranquility, making it one of the most photographed and beloved destinations in the country.
Half of the island is occupied by a luxury resort (Bahia Principe), while the rest is open for day-trip visitors. Tourists enjoy swimming, sunbathing, snorkeling, paddle-boarding, and relaxing on the beach. The public beach side is vibrant and friendly, offering fresh seafood, craft stalls, and easy access for boat taxis from Samaná port.
For adventure seekers, there are options to explore marine life just off shore, take scenic walks, and capture panoramic views of Samana Bay. Many day-trips combine visits to Cayo Levantado with Los Haitises National Park or El Limón Waterfall, making it a must-see in any Samaná itinerary.
