Cueva de las Maravillas — The Cave of Wonders

Your first stop is Cueva de las Maravillas (the "Cave of Wonders"), a national park cave located between San Pedro de Macorís and La Romana. Stretching roughly 800 meters and reaching 25 meters underground, the cave holds more than 500 Taíno petroglyphs and pictographs — faces, animals and geometric forms painted and engraved with charcoal and red ochre approximately 800 to 1,000 years ago.

Rediscovered in 1926 and protected as a national park since 1997, it is one of the most accessible caves in the country: a lit walkway, ramps and an elevator let you explore the stalactites, stalagmites and ancient artwork without any climbing.

Altos de Chavón

Nestled above the Chavón River, Altos de Chavón is one of the Dominican Republic’s most iconic cultural villages. Designed in Mediterranean style with cobblestone streets and panoramic viewpoints, it offers an inspiring mix of history, art, and scenic beauty.
