The 245 km route takes about 3 hours 30 minutes via the Atlántico highway. Beyond the whales, Samaná offers Salto El Limón (a 40-meter waterfall reached on horseback or on foot through the rainforest), Cayo Levantado (the postcard islet that appeared on a Bacardi label for decades), and Los Haitises National Park (mangroves, Taíno caves, karst formations accessible only by boat from Sabana de la Mar).
